Au Bon Climat 2006 Chardonnay (Santa Barbara County)
I like this Santa Barbara winery for reliable chardonnay and pinot noir at a price that does not break the bank.  Not as much complexity as some of the more heralded Santa Barbara producers, but a solid performer.

Robert Foley Vineyards 2005 Napa Valley Charbono
One of the best Charbono producers in the world.  This is the one to try if you have not had it.  Retails in the 30 to 40 dollar range.

3.5 stars.  See more detailed reviews elsewhere on this site.

Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Estate Bottled Sparkiling Wine (Sonoma Valley, CA)
One of the better California sparkling wines.  Affiliated with the Roederer Champagne house in France.  This non-vintage sparkler is good year after year.  Crisp and well balanced.

Brewer-Clifton Pinot Noir 2007 Santa Rita Hills
I'll make it simple.  Every Pinot from Brewer-Clifton is excellent.  Unfortunately, they are as rare as hen's teeth at local wine shops.  The best way to get it is to sign up for the winery's mailing list.  They used to offer the wines in assortment packages, but they are now more flexible with purchase options allowing you to mix and match according to taste.  I have not had their Chardonnay's, but they are highly regarded as well.

Chateau Grand-Pontet, 2000 (St. Emilion, Bordeaux; Grand Cru)
One of the better values for Grand Cru Bordeaux.  The wine is just starting to hit it's peak, but may benefit from another year or two of cellaring.

Switchback Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, Peterson Family Vineyard; 2004
A hard to find wine, usually purchased through boutique wine shops or through the winery's mailing list.  An absolutely fabulous cabernet.  Retail price close to $100.00.  Made by winemaker Robert Foley, who has a midas touch when it comes to cabernet.

La Jota 15th Anniversary Release Howell Mountain 1996
The wine has plenty of stuffing left.  A wonderful Howell Mountain cab.  Do not confuse with the regular La Jota bottling.

4 stars.  Tasted in 2009

Sogno Due, 2005
This Italian white wine is a blend of white grapes from the Campania region of Italy.  I liked the wine on release, but it does not hold age very well.  Drink this one on release.  Made by adult film star Savanna Samson.

Chateau Rieussec Sauternes (Grand Cru), 2003
I love this sweet desert wine.  I buy it in half bottles.  They usually have it at the Harvest Ranch market east of Encinitas, north of Rancho Santa Fe.  Snobs will disagree, but the wine can compete with Chateau d'Yquem for about one fourth of the price.

Sea Smoke Botella Pinot Noir 2006 (Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County, California)
The Sea Smoke Pinots are amongst the finest in the United States, in my opinion.  The Botella is their least expensive offering, but is just as enjoyable as the more expensive "Southing" and "Ten" bottlings.  A huge bouquet of red fruit and flowers, smokey wild cherry and mixed fruit on the palate, and a silky finish.  A beautiful wine.  The best way to get it is to sign up on the company's mailing list.
