I was already to make this wine the wine of the month for November 2008 since Wine Exchange in Orange County was selling it for $29.99 (it normally sells for $60 and up).  Right before I posted the review, they advertised their price in an e-mail campaign and it sold out in a few days.  The wine is still a fine wine at full price, but hard to find locally, and at full price, it did not merit wine of the month.

This is a syrah based wine from the northern Rhone villiage of Cote Rotie.  It boasts a leathery, earthy, woody nose, with spicy black fruit and espresso on the palate and a long finish.  Drink now or cellar for a decade.

4 stars.
