The Mondavi Reserve cabernets from the late 80's to early 90's were some of the most compelling cabernets ever produced in the state.  Anyone who thinks that California cabs can not last in the cellar should try this wine.  The 1987 Mondavi Reserve cabernet is now 20 years old, and still drinks wonderfully.  It is starting to lose a little color on the edge as you would expect, but still packs a powerful punch with enough playful fruit on the palate to remain sexy, despite it's more mature "sophisticated" flavors.  Afterall, any good wine can be seductive in it's prime, but it takes the Sophia Loren's of the wine world to still maintain their alure with 2 decades of cellar age.
