La Couspaude flys way "under the radar", to use a phrase I hate.  In other words, no one really knows about this wine, but every Bordeaux fan should.  The wine is priced better than most Bordeaux wines of similar quality.  I do not know the exact proportions used for the 1995 blend, but the vineyard for La Couspaude is planted to 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc.  The 1995 vintage of La Couspaude was tasted once in the summer of 2007 and again in the winter.  On both occasions, the wine was excellent.  Still plenty of black currant fruit, a hint of anise, and lots of toasted oaky/campfire notes.  The wine is still powerful, and seems poised to age well for a number of years; a rare trait in an attractively priced wine with so much merlot.

4 stars +.
