Chateau St. Jean Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004

I really like this "fairly" priced Sonoma County cab that can be found at virtually every grocery store in Southern California.  I saw it for about $14 at one of the local grocers if you have the shoppers club card )I think it was at Ralphs or Albertons's for this price).  It usually sells in the high teens or low 20's at the stores, but is quite frequenly discounted.  It outperforms virtually every other wine in it's price category, and is really a lovely cabernet.  Keep in mind that Chateau St. Jean makes 2 cabernets with virtually identical labels.  One is a generic cabernet, and the other is labeled as "Sonoma County".  The Sonoma County version is well worth the extra couple of bucks.

The wine has a dark purple core and ruby on the edges.  The bouquet is primarily black fruit (mixed) with a touch of toasty oak.  Tannins are fine and onobtrusive.  This is perhaps the best "every day drinker" out there.
