Produttori del Barbaresco 2001, Italy

This entry was posted on 6/20/2007 8:29 PM and is filed under Italian wines, Piedmont, Barolo and Barbaresco, good value wines.

Produttori del Barbaresco makes several single vineyard Barbaresco wines.  They also make a blended Barbaresco without vineyard designation.  This wine, I believe, is the best bargain in Barbaresco.  It can be found at release for under $20, and in poor vintages the 2nd label (Langhe, not Barbaresco) may sell for only $15.00.  A bottle with Barbaresco designation from a good vintage with several years of ageing, such as the 2001 can still be had for under $30.00.

The wine is drinking well, and the non-vineyard designated Barbaresco seems to mature a bit faster than the single vineyard designates.  The wine is characterized by leather, wild cherry, rose petals, and earth.
