Plumpjack remains one of my favorite producers of Napa Valley cabernet.  They produce a big, bold full bodied wine that knocks your socks off young, and ages beautifully.  For me, the golden age for Plumpjack was from vintages 1996-1999.  The wines were outstanding and consisitent.  The wines after 1999 were also outstanding, but it seems word got out how good the wines were, and as demand soared, so did prices.  I really can't afford Plumpjack anymore.

I still have some 1996 and 1997 Plumpjack in my cellar, and I puled a bottle of the 1996 earlier this month.  What a fabulous wine.  A huge bouquet of black fruit medley, licorice, and cedar, followed by a rich, complex, layerd drenching of the palate and a sweet, long finish.  I would have never guessed the wine with this much fruit was 11 years old.
