Chateau Cantemerle 1988 (Grand Cru, Haut Medoc, Bordeaux)

This grand cru 20 year old Bordeaux was selling for 30-something dollars at the Del Mar Wine Company off Del Mar Heights road recently.  They had about half a case.  I bought a few bottles.  One was terriblly corked, and the other was wonderful.  Cantemerle never won big points from Wine Spectator or Parker, and 1988 was good but not great, and I suppose this is why the wine sold for  a very reasonable price for a 20 year old grand cru Bordeaux.

The good bottle was very very good, still holding on to enough fruit to jazz up the leather and truffle aromas typical for old Bordeaux.

Just shy of 4 stars
