Chateau De Fieuzal, 1995 (Bordeaux, Grand Cru, Pessac-Leognan)

This wine really blew my socks off. Chateau De Fieuzal is a Grand cru estate in the Graves (Pessac-Leognan) region of Bordeaux, but seems to get little respect from the American press. I think this is a good thing, as the lack of attention in our country seems to help keep prices in check. This wine represents one of the more interesting quality-price ratios in this region of Bordeaux
The wine still boasts opaque color. It has the quintessential earthy, smokey, gravelly nose that one expects from this region, along with plenty of crushed plums and black fruits. The wine comes across the palate velvety and sweet, perhaps due to the merlot content of this blend (roughly 60% cabernet, 30% merlot, 10% other). Tannins here are as soft as they come. The wine finishes smoothly and elegantly. Enjoy this wine with dinner, or it can stand alone with bread, crackers, and cheese.
