For the first 20 minutes after opening this wine, I was disappointed.  The nose was subdued and vegetal, and the taste mediocre.  Then WHAMO.  Sudddenly the wine opened up magnificently.  A lovely nose of black berry, black licorice, and melting caramel and a sweet fruit slighltly peppery palate.  The wine has strong tannin, and will last for quite a while.  After drinking 2 glasses, I felt like I had 3 or 4.  Then I checked the back label "16% alcohol".  That's alot for wine, but the Greenock Creek 2002 Allice's Shiraz sure hides it well.  The rest of the bottle will be corked for another night!  The wine holds up well to just bread, cheese, and chocolate, but will pair quite well with any red meat.

almost 4 stars.
