Chaeaux Pradeaux (Bandol, France); 1999

The wines from the town of Bandol, on the French Mediterranean coast remain relatively hard to find in the USA. The wines from Bandol are primarily Mourvedre, but Grenache and Cinsault may also be added to the blend. Chateau Pradeaux is one of the most reliable producers from Bandol. Pradeaux, along with Domaine Tempier, are the two Bandol wineries from whom I will buy wine in good vintages and bad, with or without anyone's recommendation or review. They really are that consistent.
The 1999 Chateaux Pradeaux is just hitting it's peak. A little lighter in color than in some other years, the wine still packs a meaty, smokey punch with plenty of black fruit remaining prominent. The harsh tannins that can be present in poorly made Mourvedre are not found here, and the wine finishes well. Very, very good.
