White Oak Vineyards 2003 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

White Oak is an estate winery that has been around for about 20 years.  They never seemed to get top-notch reviews from the pros, and now it seems that they just avoid sending their wines to the various review sources all together.  Rather, they just sell their wines to loyal fans, and avoid the media circus.

The 2003 White Oak cab was a rather nice wine.  It is available at BevMo as well as the Wine Connection in Del Mar.  Both places sell it for about $24.00.  The wine tastes similar to the Heitz Napa cabernet (which sells for about 50% more than the White Oak).  If you like Heitz, try the White Oak.  It still packs a tad too much tannin, but this will soften in a year or two, and it will be more tame at that time.  There is plenty of fruit here to allow more prolonged cellaring for those who want their tannins even softer.  I liked this wine alot, and will probably buy it again.

3.5 stars.
