Dominus Estate Winery in Napa Valley is owned by Christian Moueix, who is best known for his affiliation with Chateau Petrus, the famed Bordeaux winery.  The story goes that Christian developed a fondness for Napa while studying at UC Davis in the 1960's.  He then returned to Napa in the 1980's and helped establish Dominus.  He later on bought out his partners, and now is sole owner.  He still maintains his administrative role at Petrus.

The 1996 Dominus was tasted in the summer of 2005.  The wine was massive, and could easily last another decade.  It needed about an hour to open up, but then revealed a beautiful wine with a strong tannic backbone.

4 stars.
