Ramey Claret 2004 (Napa Valley)

This was the first time I tried the Ramey Claret, and I really really enjoyed it.  Those who enjoy Bordeaux but don't want to pay the ridiculous prices that Bordeux sells for these days should check out the Ramey Claret.

The 2004 Ramey Claret is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec, and 4% Syrah.  Syrah was an interesting addition to the mix, and I think it works here.  The wine has nice coloring, goood legs, and a big California mixed fruit bouquet.  Plenty of sweet ripe fruit hits the palate, and the blend here hides the tannin nicely.  The wine lacks the depth of Bordeaux, but packs plenty of "California Punch!".  There is no need to age the wine, but it should hold up for 5 years I would imagine (although I do not have any experience with this wine under aged conditions).

3.5 stars.

Purchased at Alberton's Supermarket on Via De La Valle in Del Mar for $35.00 (with Albertson's club card).
