O.K.  Here is a simple word of advice from someone who has tasted and enjoyed  a lot of Italian wines across all price points.  If you want an extremely good but affordable Sangiovese based wine that is reliably good in strong vintages and weak ones, just head straignt for the Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti.  It never disappoints.  Full retail is about 20 dollars, and it can be found for about 15 at supermarkets and wine discount shops.  The wine is quite similar in most years, with a deep ruby color, and a fairly genorous bouquet for a Chianti with some toast oak, a little vanilla, and plenty of red cherry deepened with a dab of black fruit.  The wine generally finishes smooth, but lingers longer than most Chiantis.

A solid 3.5 stars, more in some vintages.  Widely available for around 15 dollars.
