This entry was posted on 12/10/2006 11:53 AM and is filed under California Cabernets, good value wines.

This wine is serous competition for the rest of the under $15 per bottle cabernets.  There are 9,000 cases produced, so it should not be too hard to find.  Joel Gott is most known for making tasty zinfandels, but he has more recently started to produce a quality cabernet.  The wine simply carries a "California" designation because grapes for the wine are sourced from vineyards in Napa, Sonoma, Lodi, and Lake County.  The wine has a deep color, nice but slightly subdued bouquet, and tasty cabernet fruit with a moderately tannic backbone.  The wine is drinkable now, but should improve for another year or so.  The wine is somewhat one dimensional, but it is well balanced and drinks nicely.

3 stars.

$13.99 at the Wine Connection in Del Mar.
