Phelps never seems to disappoint with their 2 luxury wines, "Insignia" and "Backus".  The Backus Vineyard cabs are amongst the longest lasting in Napa.  The 1990 Backus Vineyard cab was tasted on Thanksgiving, 2006.  It is on the downward side of it's lifespan, however, and should be consumed soon.  Starting to lose some of it's nose, it still poseses and interesting mix of leather, spice, chocolate and blackberry.  Fruit is also starting to fade on the palate, but enough black currant comes through to keep this wine interesting.
