The Mountadam "The Red" is a cabernet-merlot blend from Australia's Eden Valley.  The wine is fairly well regarded in Australia, but flies well under the radar in the USA.  I saw some of the 1996 vintage of this wine selling for $10 per bottle at a WineCommune Auction, despite retail price being twice that for a new, unaged bottle.  The wine had a slightly weedy note mixed with the fruit, but the wine was otherwise first rate.  The fruit here held up well, and the wine blew off it's weedy smell after about an hour of decanting.

3.25 stars.  Rarely found in the USA outside of auctions.
