I really hope this new winery project survives, as the wine is simply outstanding.  The year 2000 was the maiden vintage for Michael Seitz's Brookdale Vineyards and Winery project.  Unfortunately, Mr. Seitz passed away in 2003, and his wife has been carrying the responsibility of the winery since then.  The 2001 Brookdale Vineyards cab is an elegant and well balanced cabernet sauvignon, precocious with a fruit forward presentation, but plenty of balance and complexity to balance out the bursting fruit on this wine.  Lots of mocha/chocolately notes in this one, with a supple finish and silky tannins.

3.75 stars, $55.oo at Meritage Wine Market in Encinitas.
