Yalumba Shiraz (Y series), 2003 (South Australia)

This entry was posted on 9/19/2006 8:02 PM and is filed under Australian Wines, good value wines.

Yalumba is a giant wine producer in Australia, and makes wines at every price point and quality level.  The "Y" series of wines represents the winery's mid level wines (i.e. fairly good quality at an attractive price).  For some reason, the Y series shiraz was not meant for export, although some wine has made it to the USA via the secondary market.

The 2002 Y series Shiraz is a straightforward, fruit laden Aussie shiraz.  There is nothing terribly complex about it, but it has a nice berry and spice bouquet, plenty of fruit, and is designed for immediate drinkability.  Ageing is not required.  A great value in the low 10 dollar range if you can find it.

3 stars.
