Special thanks to Dr. Michael T. Foreman, and his lovely fiancee' Lisa for turning me onto this little gem from the Langhorne Creek area of South Australia.  It is 100% Shiraz, and seems to stradle the middle of the spectrum between the traditional and modern styles of Shiraz.  The winery is a new one, and this was my first exposure to their wine.  The family that owns the winery have owned vineyards in the area for 5 generations, but only recently made the move from grape growers to wine producers.  I suspect they will be successful.

Ordinarily I am reluctant to open bottles of wine on the day I receive them for fear that the sediments, if present, will get disturbed and distributed throughout the wine.  I could not tell whether this wine was filtered or not, so to be safe, we decided to lay the wine down for several hours in the cellar, let it settle down, and then open it.  The wine turned out to be a delight.  The wine had a lovely bouquet of blackberry, exotic spice, saddle leather, and pepper.  The peppery aromas were strong at first, but settled after about 30 minutes of decanting.  The wine was easy to drink, with lush fruit and well integrated tannin.  Too bad Mickey couldn't stay around to finish the bottle and witness it's metamorphosis over time.

Mickey and I both scored the wine at 3.5 stars initially.  Later in the evening, after about an hour of decanting, the wine moved up a notch to somewhere between 3.75 and 4 stars.

Thanks Mick and Lisa!  Congrats on your engagement as well.
