Chateau Latour Martillac 2000 (Grand Cru; Bordeaux; Pessac-Leognan/Graves)

When the rest of the wine buying world was spending upwards of 100 dollars per bottle to buy a mid level vintage 2000 Bordeuux, and three times that for a first growth, this wine could be had for about 25-30 dollars.  In a great year like 2000, this unheralded wine is as good as the more famous Pessac Leognans are in the more mediocre years, at a fraction of the cost.  The wine has the typical Graves bouquet of wet earth, smoke, truffles, and a hint of tar.  There was ample fruit and a nice finish.  The wine is approaching full maturity, and should stay there for at least 5 years.
