This wine would have easily been a wine of the month winner if it was widely available.  That is the only bad thing about it.  It's just hard to find.

The 1996 Echezeaux from Mongeard-Mugneret is an exquisite example of Pinot Noir from the heart of Burgundy.  An ethereal bouquet of violets, raspberry, and roasted herbs gives way to a delicate layered presentation of multiple black and red fruits on the palate.  The 45 second finish leaves you craving another sip.  This is what Burgundy should be.
