K and L wine shop has been carrying the 1997 and 1999 Riservas from Casiano Colombaio for at least a year, and I am amazed they are not sold out.  I have had both, and prefer the 1997, although both are excellent.  The 1997 sells for about 55 dollars, which is quite a good deal for a riserva Brunello of this quality, with this much bottle age from such a wonderful vintage.  If you like Brunello, forget the 2001's which won't be ready to drink for several years and invest heavily in this beauty.  Notes of blueberry, chocolate, tobacco leaf and campfire smoke lead the way here, followed by plenty of fruit and a mature, silky, lingering finish.  Drinks well on it's own, and pairs well with about any kind of food that suits you.

4 stars.
