Mondavi was one of the first Napa wineries to make a super-premium "reserve" Cabernet that lived up to expectations, and it still delivers consistently.  Unfortunately, many other wine makers have adopted the term "reserve" for their labels yet fail to provide reserve level quality,  as those individuals are intent on fooling consumers by making wine with a fancier label and a higher price, but no boost in quality.  Thank goodness the Mondavi's always took their reserve projects seriously.

The 1995 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Reserve was tasted in June 2006 (with my Dad on Father's Day).  It is a glorious wine that is now at it's peak.  Plenty of California bouquet hits the nose, the tannins have melted to utter softness, and the finish remains elegant.  Still plenty of fruit here, along with damp earth, smoke, and truffles.
