I think the Robert Mondavi Oakville and Stag's Leap Cabernets are amongst the best values in the semi-premium cabernet category.  I tried a properly aged bottle of the 1996 Mondavi Stag's Leap cabernet in May of 2006.  The wine has reached full maturity and will be at it's optimum drinking period during the next year or two.

The wine still has a deep purple color.  A strong nose of crushed black fruit is present, followed by a complex multi-fruit layered coating of the palate.  The tannins have melted away on this wine, but the finish remains lengthy.

4 stars  (purchased at auction for 35 dollars in 2005).
