When the name Pahlmeyer pops up, the first thing many people think about is the 1994 Demi Moore/ Michael Douglas movie"Disclosure".  In the movie, Demi Moore tries to seduce Mr. Douglas with a 1991 Pahlmeyer chardonnay.  They picked that wine for the movie becuase it was obscure, but the wine became instantly became an overnight sensation immediately thereafter.   Unfortunately, the price soon skyrocketed.  The wine that was featured int the movie (the 1991) retailed for 20 bucks.     By the time the movie got widespread acclaim in the mid 1990's, they doubled the price of the wine, and now it's selling for 70 dollars, which is 3.5 times the price of the 1991 featured in the movie.  Too bad, because it was pretty good chardonnay.

Jayson is essentially the 2nd label for Pahlmeyer, and they make a red and white wine under this label.  The Jayson by Pahlmeyer is much more reasonably priced, and has a lot of the same attributes as the real Pahlmeyer.  I paid 27 dollars for the wine a year or two ago at Vintage Wines on Miramar.  The 2002 Jayson Chardonnay is a textbook example of an ultra-ripe, ultra-rich, heavily oaked California Chardonnay.  Those who like this style will love this wine.  Those who like a leaner, less ripe white wine will be less enamored.  The wine has a robust bouquet of honeydo, peach, and flowers, and a lot of green apple and buttery oak on the palate.  A nicely acidic kick hits the finish.

I give this wine 3.5 stars, but keep in mind I am not a huge California chardonnay fan.  For those who are, you will probably rate the wine higher.  For those who want a little high-risk romance a la Demi and Mike in the movie, pick up a bottle tonight and let the fireworks begin.
