Beau Vigne Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

This is another California cult newcomer.  It comes at a steep price (retail about 90 dollars, although I got it at a lower wholesale price from a restaruanteur), but they do deliver on the goods!  A heady bouquet of black currant, boysenberry, campfire smoke, and cigar box, followed by a huge multi-layered black fruit assault on the palate, backed up by mouth-gripping tannin.  Not for the faint of heart.  I think most people would find it most enjoyable with a little bottle age (1-2 years), but those who like strong tannic backboned wines will enjoy it now.  For immediate consumption, the wine pairs much better with food than as a stand alone beverage.
