RODA II Rioja Reserva 2001

Roda makes three very fine Spanish wines.  The first, Cirsion, is an ultra-expensive offering which I have never had the pleasure of tasting.  Next on the price scale is Roda I, and the least expensive offering from this producer is Roda II.  It is 94% Tempranillo, 4% Garnacha, and 2% Graciano.  The wine has a delicate nose, but good flavor on the palate with cherry, spice, and toasty oak.  Tannins are a tad strong for Rioja, but will soften with another year or two in the cellar.  For those who like cabernet and other tannic wines, the modest tannin in this offering will not be considered intrusive.  I enjoyed this wine quite a bit.
