I enjoyed a half bottle of this wine at the bar at Mille Fleurs Restaurant in Rancho Santa Fe.  I like restaurants that offer high quality half bottles.  2001 was an excellent year for chateauneuf du pape.

The wine has a nice saturated purple color.  The nose has black fruits, mineral, pepper and spice.  The tannins are still strong, and those who prefer them soft should let this bottle age further.  It is entirely enjoyable now for those who like bold wines with a solid tannic back bone.  The wine has nice balance and a long finish.

Chateauneuf du pape has to be one of the most complax and earthy wines I have ever tasted. I'm just getting into french wines and love it.
