Gaetano D'Aquino Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2000

This wine would serve as a nice, inexpensive introduction to Amarone for those who have not had it. Ordinarily, Amarone wines are much more expensive, as one can see from the other Amarone wines reviewed on this site. I bought this wine for $14.99 at Costco.
Gaetano D'Aquino is not a wine producer, but rather, they are a wine importer. I was unabe to tell who exactly was the producer of the wine. At the bottom of the bottle there is a designation "bottled by VI.PE, Soave. VI.PE is an abbreviation for the Pedemonte wine commune, so I assume that this is a commune produced wine that just bears the name of the importer.
The wine was somewhat on the light side for an Amarone, but quite pleasant and entirely ready to drink now. The bouquet demonstrates notes of black fruit and smoke, and on the palate one detects raisins, black fruit and toasty oak. The finish is smooth, and tannin is not overpowering but present. Although this is not the pinnacle of Amarone wines by a long shot, its early maturity and inexpensive price make it a great value.
