Damilano Barolo 2001

Wow.  What a nifty wine.  I purchased the wine for $38 at Meritage Wine Market in March 2006.  For those who want to shop around, or buy on-line, you can get it for even cheaper.  Most decent Barolos are twice this price.  Most Barolos are not ready to drink for about 10 years.  This one is just about ready now!

My only qualm about this wine is that the nose was soft.  Pleasant, but soft.  Not much of the tar and asphalt that you get with the bigger Barolos.  Maybe those will come with time, I just don't know.  At the present time, the nose was mostly floral, almost like a merlot or Pinot.  On the palate, this wine was medium bodied, and filled with red cherry and plum.  The tannins here are soft, and the finish is easy.  This is one of the earliest drinking Barolos I have ever had.
