Domaine Tempier Cuvee Speciale (Bandol) 2000

Bandol is a wine region in the South of France on the Meditteranean Coast. It is, in my opinion, the penultimate wine region of the Provencal coast. This area generates memorable rose wines and hearty reds. The red wines are made primarily from the Mourvedre grape and are excellent. Domaine Tempier makes Mourvedre based reds from several different vineyards. The Cuvee Speciale is one of the more accessible, and is the easiest to find in the USA.
This is a wonderful wine with an interesting bouquet of saddle leather, wet earth and truffles. On the palate it is a heavy wine with layers of black fruit and spice. It has a long, but smooth finish.
All lovers of red wine should try a nice Bandol red at least once. You may find that you have been missing something special.
The Domaine Tempier Cuve Speciale Vintage 2000 gets 4 stars. I purchased this wine some time ago at the
Wine Sellar and Brassiere in San Diego.
