Goat-Roti is the top end of the offerings from the Goats Do Roam Wine Company. The name is a humerous knock on the famous Cote-Rotie region in France, where some of the world's finest Syrah is made. The name is funny, but the wine is serious. It is 90% Syrah (Shiraz), with the balance being Mouvedre and Viognier. It is a richly colored robust wine with a peppery Syrah-like bouquet. It is followed by lots of layered black fruit and spice on the palate. The finish is strong and satisfying. The wine maker feels this wine will benefit from 5 years of ageing. This may very well be the case, but I have not had any aged wines from Goat-Rotie, so I can not speak from experience. The wine sells for a fraction of the price of a real Cote-Rotie, and can compete easily with the lower and even the middle levels of real Cote-Rotie producers. The wine is no match for the top tier Cote Roties, but those wines cost a fortune, whereas this wine can be had for about 15 bucks.
