I have had the wonderful opportunity to have this wine twice over the last 12 months.  Each time it was excellent.  Altamura is not a new winery, but has small production and is hard to find.  They do sell through their web site, and a few of the high end wine shops in town have recently started to carry the 2001 vintage of this wine.  This is a California Cab at its pinacle.  It hits you hard on the nose with crushed black fruit, and follows with dried plums, raisins, and black currants.  The tannins are silky smooth, and the wine finishes with s velvety finish.  I think I will try to get some of the 2001 and cellar it.  If it drinks anything like the 96 once it has matured, it will offer the patient consumer a real treat.  4 stars.
