Flora Springs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Flora Springs is another one of those wineries that gets it done year after year without a lot of fan fare.  Anyone who has tried it will tell you it's good stuff, but the wine press sort of ignores it.  They keep the prices very reasonable for their standard bottlings, and this wine represent an excellent quality to value ratio.  I buy several bottles every year that Napa has a good crop, and have never been disappointed.  The 2001 is no exception.  Black currants, exotic spices, and robust plum gives way to a rich mouthfeel and a lingering sweet finish.  Moderate tannin will alow this wine to age gracefully for several years if you like your wines more mellow.  The wine can be found if you shop around in the low to mid 20 dollar range.  Full retail is obviously a little higher, but still worth it.  Enjoy.  3.5 stars

      VC,
I tried the 2001 Flora Springs Cabernet last night and found it wonderful. I must admit that right out of the bottle unchilled it was a little tannic. However after about 30 mins the wine mellowed considerably. I found it to be very smooth and silky with a hint of sweetness. in fact at first I thought that I was drinking a Syrah and had to recheck the label. I would give this wine a 3 to 3.5 stars. I think that after a little more time in the bottle it will fantastic.

I agree.  Very nice wine.  Always a good buy for the money.

The 2002 is also quite nice and a good value. As Rawli pointed out regarding the 2001, it does need at least 30 minutes of decanting. It is a very good value, and as VC said, they keep doing it year after year.

Ahh.  So nice to have the esteemed Professor adding to our message boards.  Knowing that you must have that fancy wine cellar of yours well stocked by now, I anxiously await your postings of some new wines that we have not yet covered.  There is a link to "leave a review of wines not on our site" on the main page of the blog, if you are so inclined.  I feel guitly signing off until the Professor officially declares that class is dismissed!...........V.C.
