Simi Landslide Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

This is a really nice California Cabernet from the Landslide Vineyard in Sonoma, California.  I think retail price is about 45 dollars or so, but if you shop around, you may be able to get it in the mid 20's.  I bought a case of it for $23, but that is an unbelievable price.  It is fairly priced even at full retail.  I would put this wine up against the elite cult wines from California that sell for 3 times the price.  A huge bouquet with cedar, smoked meat, and crucshed currants, followed by a rich palate drenching fruit bomb.  A nice long finish that leaves you wondering how they hid all that tannin so deftly.  You might think this wine was already aged for quite a while.  I like this wine a lot.  3.75 stars.

I have been sampling (by the bottle!) a number of red syrah, shiraz, red zins, and cab savs, for about a year. Maybe it has something to do with timing, but I cannot be more pleased with this wine. I love the oak, but it doesn't linger too long. The blackberry fruit and pepper is perfect with tannins that aid in a lingering finish without a dry tongue!

I will be looking for more of this vintage to stock up, and sampling other vintages of the same.

      All the best!

Nicely summarized DJC.  I agree with your assessment 100%.  As you can see, most of the wines we have reviewed are Cabernet based, or Italian varietals.  We are lacking in the syrah and zin departments.  You mention that you enjoy syrah/shiraz as well as zins.  Can you tell our readers some good ones that you like that are readily available, and represent a good value?............thanks for your post.............V.C.
