Simi Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2001

Simi is a great winery when it comes to Cabernet.  They have 3 cab offerings, all of which are consistently excellent every year, and all represent good value for the quality.  The standard Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon offers a fairly full bodied, well balanced Cabernet suitable for casual midweek dinners that can be paired equally well with a nice weekend restaurant meal.  Full retail is around 25 dollars, but I see it frequently at the discount wine merchants, on line retailers, Costco and so forth for about 15 dollars.  It's a fair deal at full retail, and a great deal at 15 bucks.  It is fruit forward, with enough tannin to hold up for several years for those who prefer a well aged cab.  It is perfectly ready to drink upon release.  Good color, nice bouquet, and a good all around wine.  I always have a few bottles handy at my house.  3.25 stars
