I have had the 1995 and 1996 versions of this wine and honestly can not tell them apart.  Both have the tell-tale aromatic profile that a good wine from Pessac-Leognan should have, with smoked meat, earthy truffles, and minerals.  The wines are not overly brooding, with a lot of up-front fruit (Black berries and currants), and well hidden tannin.  The wine is medium bodied for a Bordeaux, and this wine pairs well with red meat as well as less robust dining fare.  The wine bursts out of the glass, and begs for another taste.  The wine is liquid velvet in a glass.  This is not a wine to sip and spit in a high volume tasting.  It is a wine to savor over an intimate dinner, or with good friends and fellow wine lovers.  I think this wine is one of the best values in classified Bordeaux, yet remains underaprreciated due to lack of media attention.  4 stars.
