Chateau Leoville Barton 1995 (Bordeaux St. Julien Grand Cru Classe)

I think this wine can hold up to just about any other Bordeaux, yet remains a good value for the level of quality.  It usually sells for roughly half of the price of neighboring Leoville Las Cases, largely because a few influential wine critics have adopted the other Leoville as the media darling.  Leoville Barton is serious wine, and can last 30 years in a good vintage.  The 1995 has a dark purple color, and a rich bouquet of black fruit, cedar, and spice box.  It is jammy and has a lot of currant fruit on the palate.  There is a lot of tannin here, but it is well hidden.  The wine is well balanced.  You honestly could not hope for a whole lot more in a wine.  It will probably reach its peak in another few years, and probably keep for at least another decade.  4 stars.
