I saw your review and tried the wine. I agree with you that this is good wine. I think it will definitely get even better for anyone who can age it for a year or two. Thanks for turning me onto this wine, and thanks for your web site!

I saw a 2004 Owl Ridge at the San Diego Wine Company for a better price. Any knowledge if the 2004 is as good as the 2003 you reviewed?

Hector,  Thanks for the info.  It sounds like it is worth checking out.  I do not know if the wine at San Diego Wine Company is the same (except for the year) as the one I reviewed, but I doubt it.  I will look into it.  The 2003 that I reviewed was a single vineyard wine from Brigden Vineyard, and is so denoted on the label.  It was released only a couple months ago, so it does not seem feasible to have now released the 2004.  I suspect that the 2004 that you saw was from  a different vineyard, or from a general Sonaoma County blend.  It may still be a very good wine, but I have not tried it.  I will try to pick up a bottle this week, and let you know how it is.  I would guess that anything from this wine producer is probably good, but it is unlikely that a Cabernet released just after a year from grape harvest will take on the beauty of the wine we reviewed.  If it does not say "Brigden Vineyard" on the front label, it is a different wine.  Thanks for your comments.  Did you try it?

I have an explanation for the 2004 Owl Ridge Wines Cab - Vineyard Select, since I am the owner of Owl Ridge Wines. First of all, thanks for your generous comments about the 2003 Brigden. The 2004 Vineyard Select is, indeed, released, even though it is so young. Our wine maker, Joe Otos, felt that the wine was so good now that it would not benefit from more barrel time. In fact, we originally intended that it be a vineyard designate from the Soper-Wheeler vineyard in extreme northern Sonoma County. But a blend with 15% of the 2004 T.R. Passalacqua Cab (Dry Creek Valley) rounded it out so well that we just had to do it, hence the Sonoma County designation. We think it will be good for a long time. Thanks for the opportunity to clarify this point.

        John,

Thank you for your clarification, and thanks even more for making great wine!.  You are certainly a very welcomed guest on this message board.  By the way, the feedback I have gotten on your Brigden has been universally positive.  No one I know has tried your 04 Select yet, but if you say the wine is ready to drink now, I think I will pick up a few bottles and get it reviewed here on the site.  Cheers!!!!!!!!!!V.C.

Any of you readers tried the 04 yet?

I just wanted to bring you up-to-date on Owl Ridge Wines and the 2003 Cab - Brigden Vineyard that you reviewed favorably earlier this year. It was rated 93 by the Wine Enthusiast, reinforcing the great review you gave it earlier this year. All of our Owl Ridge wines have now received 20 gold medals and three "Best of Class" in about the last year.
